Tooth Extraction

General Treatment

Why would teeth need to be extracted?

When feasible, we prioritize adopting conservative procedures to maintain natural teeth at Precision Dental Clinic. Fillings, root canal therapy, and gum disease treatments may be used to restore the health of a sick or damaged tooth. However, there are times when extraction is required because of reasons such as:
• Advanced decay that has weakened the structure of the tooth
• Gum disease has spread to the supporting tissues and bone.
• Injury to the tooth
In addition to these causes, extractions may be performed for orthodontic purposes or the removal of wisdom teeth, particularly when impacted teeth or overcrowding inhibit normal alignment of adult teeth.

The tooth extraction process:

Tooth extractions, including molars, are routinely performed with local anesthetic in a single visit to our clinic. We will numb the tooth and surrounding region on the day of the treatment, then gently rock and extract the tooth. Larger teeth may need to be broken up before being extracted. In the case of impacted or partially erupted teeth, surgical extraction may be required, which entails creating a tiny incision in the gums to access and remove the tooth, then sewing the incision up as necessary.
